Finding out about Trackbacks
When I started blogging, I thought the exercise would be very sporadic. I figured that I’d learn about the software and systems fairly quickly. I assumed that, since I considered myself above average in terms of knowledge of computer systems and web publishing, the mists shrouding the blogosphere would clear and allow me clear view and expertise in how this all works. Wrong…..
The first assumption, the one about the frequency of my posts, was the only correct one. I’m still learning how WordPress works. What is a Trackback?
A Trackback is a type of Linkback – a method for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking, and so referring, to their articles. There are three methods of Linkback – Refback, Trackback and Pingback – and they differ in how they accomplish the task.
Reading that one post, cleared the mist for me in terms of Trackbacks. I heartily recommend reading it if you are curious about how one small part of the blogosphere works.
